Dr. Jun Sun is a tenured Professor and Associate Head of Department of Medicine, the University of Illinois Chicago. She is an elected Fellow for the American Physiological Society and American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Fellow. She chaired the AGA Microbiome and Microbial Therapy section (2020-22) and co-chaired the national Task Force Committee on Omics Pathobiology in Long COVID. She is internationally known for her pioneering discovery of novel roles of microbiome in various diseases, including vitamin D/vitamin D receptor deficiency, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, infection, and cancer. She has published over 240 scientific articles in leading journals e.g., Gastroenterology, Gut, Cell Reports Medicine, Nature Genetics, & Gut Microbes. She is the leading editor/author of 10 books on microbiome. She serves on the editorial board of high-impact peer-reviewed journals, e.g., a Deputy Editor for AJP-GIL, an Associate Editor for Gut Microbes. Her research is supported by the NIH, DOD, and VA awards.
